How do I...

  1. Open the Settings dialog. (Lower right corner of main screen).
  2. Click Add Tracked Directory
  3. On the new row, click Recursive if you also want the photos in sub-folders.
  4. On the new row, click Tracked if you want 17Photos to look for new media on every restart.
  5. On the new row, click Change to select the directory.
  6. Navigate to the folder (directory) with the photos you wish to add.
  7. Click Select Folder.
  8. Click Accept to add these photos.
(Note: This cannot be duplicated in the sandbox.)

  1. Navigate to the desired photo on the Describe Page by either:
    • Clicking the left or right arrow in the Describe Page
    • Double clicking the photo in the Media Page
  2. Ensure that the Show Tags option in the upper right is checked.
  3. Left click on the face you want to describe.
  4. In the pop-up dialog data entry space, either
    • Type the person's name
    • Click the down arrow to show all available choices
  5. If the name is new, the Create button is your only choice.
  6. If the name already exists the Add button is your only choice.
  7. When Create is clocked, another dialog pops up to more completely describe the person. Click Save
  8. A rectangle will appear on the Describe Dock, centered on your mouse location. Grab abd drag the boundries to correctly size the rectangle to include the full face.

  1. Open the Albums Page by clicking on Albums in the lower left of the main page.
  2. Click New Album in the upper left corner to make an empty Album.
  3. Enter the title of the Album. This is required. The checkbox determines whether the album display starts with the title page.
  4. Album Wide options determine whether some "sepcial effects" are applied and whether and the pace at which the album auto plays.
  5. Audio Options determines how to play any audio attached to media that is added to the album
  6. To add Photos to the Album, either
    • Drag and drop a photo from the Media Dock.
    • Add a group of photos by selecting from the Add From Catalog dropdown
  7. The order in which the photos display is left to right and top to bottom and is controlled by drag and drop within the Album page.
  8. Right Clicking a photo in the Album procides these options:
    • Cover Photo: When checked this photo is the cover. Only one photo can be the cover. If cropped the cover will be cropped as well
    • Crop: Opens a dialog to select a subregion of the photo for display in the album or use as a cover photo
    • Show Caption: When checked, any caption text added to the photo will be displayed beneath the photo
    • Add Again: Adds a copy of the photo to the album. Usefiul when doing multiple crops to zoom in on some aspects
    • Remove from Album: Removes the photo from this Album
  9. Click View Album to see how the current album will play
  10. Click Save to store the album in the local 17Photos database.
  11. Click Cancel to forget about the work in progress,whether creating a new album or editing an existing one.

  1. On the Albums Page, right click on the Album Card of the album you wish to publish.
  2. Select Export/Publish from the dropdown.
  3. There are four options:
    • HTML Preview will use your default browser to display the Album as an HTML Entity.
    • HTML Export will prompt you for a disk destination at which the HTML version of teh album will be stored. This could be a thumbdrive or network drive.
    • Remove from 17Photos.org will remove the album from the Members secion of 17Pages.org
    • Publish to 17Photos.org will (over)write the Album on the 17Photos website.
  4. Click OK to execute your choice of actions, or Cancel to quit.
  5. Access Notes
    • The Settings page option "Show 17Photos.org features" must be checked to get the Publish/Remove options. This setting will take effect the nexxt time you restart the desktop.
    • You must have registered on the 17Photos.org website to be able to publish an album.
    • To register, click the Login button and follow the link for "Register here"

  1. Navigate to the desired photo on the Describe Page by either:
    • Clicking the left or right arrow in the Describe Page
    • Double clicking the photo in the Media Page
  2. Right click the photo and select Make a Phace from the dropdown.
  3. In the pop-up dialog, do Step 1 by cropping the photo the face of interest. (Note this could be anything, perhaps a dog or other pet as well)
  4. In Step 2 select the images to be used to overlay the cropped face. You can either
    • Use a catalog entry to specific a group of photos. Broad brush approach
    • Explicitly specify genealogical relationships to specify the overlay images
  5. Note that in the broad brush approach, any Who or What tagged pixels will be used.
  6. In Step 3 options specific to the image generation process are chosen.
    • Size: Larger overlay tiles make it easier to see the overlay faces
    • Opacity: The lower the opacity the more of the original photo shows through
    • Matching: Method for selecting which swatch to use (RGB vs CYMK)
  7. The effect of the option choices can be seen by clicking Preview the Phace
  8. Clicking Show Swatches lists the faces that can be used as overlays. Unchecking the box between the color swatch and the face will prevent that face from being used.
  9. In Step 4 the settings in Step 3 will be used to generate a printable image of the size chosen in Print Size
  10. Clicking Save to File opens a dialog that allows you to specify where to save and the name of the generated PNG file.

  1. Login to https://17Photos.org
  2. Click your name in the upper right hand corner to open a drop down menu.
  3. Click "My Albums"
  4. On the "My Albums" Page, locate the album you wish to remove and click "remove" in the Action column.
  5. Verify that you do want to permanently remove the album from the Member Albums section. Note that if it has been selected as a Featured Album, you will have to contact us via Send Feedback

  1. Login to https://17Photos.org
  2. Click your name in the upper right hand corner to open a drop down menu.
  3. Click "Edit Profile"
  4. On the "Edit Profile" Page, click the switch next to "I'm done with ...".
  5. Click "Save Edit" and then confirm that you wish to deactivate your account.
